Portrait Fees

Fees start at $600 for a bust. Portrait usually has an appropriate neutral background. An elaborate background adds to the cost. There is an extra charge for a particular prop or a pet. Size of the portrait depends on the pose. I will give you a firm price before the portrait is started, according to your wishes.

A quarter of the total non-refundable deposit is payable at the first session to secure your name on the waiting list, and a quarter on viewing the preliminary color sketch. The final half is due on completion. Satisfaction is guaranteed.

$3000 --- Full figure with elaborate background

Size: 28" x 36" or 24" x 36"

$4000 --- Half-length figure with elaborate background
$5000 --- Full figure with elaborate background

Size: 32" x 40" or 32" x 48"

$6000 --- Half-length figure with elaborate background
$6500 --- Full figure with elaborate background

Computing Fees

The fees listed are for a single figure with appropriate background. Each additional figure will have 50% increase to the original fees. A particular prop or a pet will have 30% to 50% increase to the original fees. Elaborate detailing in clothing will contribute to the cost of the portrait. The final fee is determined when all concerned have discussed and agreed upon the requirements of the portrait.

Procedure:

After an initial meeting to consult with the client about the subject, setting, clothing and where the portrait may hang, I will begin the portrait by spending some time with the subject to observe personality and physical characteristics. I will also discuss the composition with the client.

This same meeting includes a sitting using the camera to record various poses and expressions, and perhaps making thumbnail sketches and color notes. One to two hours are usually required and the session may take place at the subject's home, office or in an outdoor setting.

After more than 50 pictures are analyzed, a pose is determined that will show the subject to the best advantage. I will work from a composite of numerous photos, rather than just one.

The preliminary color sketch for the portrait is then executed. The client may inspect this color sketch and approve the composition. Then the painting proceeds. The evolving work is refined into a mutually satisfying creation for the artist and the patron, true to life and to art. Client satisfaction is guaranteed.
